Tuesday, November 30, 1999Happy Birthday to me! I'm 26, and I think that birthdays only get more depressing as you grow older, which is why you get presents--to distract you from the inevitable downward spiral of your body and mind.Sunday, November 28, 1999Friday, November 26, 1999My computer is working fine; I had a happy holiday (aside from a sprained ankle); and a friend of mine just got engaged. (I didn't say he was an exciting friend.)Well, guess what!? I just had to reformat my harddrive! Again! I have no idea why, but I could not for the life of me get Windows to start up. At least I could get to a DOS prompt, so I was able to copy the files I needed before wiping the slate clean--one month after I just wiped the slate clean!
Wednesday, November 24, 1999Remember, conquering nations rape, pillage, steal, and destroy--it's what they do. Happy Thanksgiving!Sunday, November 21, 1999People are just as gullible today as they were several hundred years ago. In the 15th century, witches and evil spirits were all the rage. Today, we can clearly see how ludicrous some of those beliefs were, while at the same time blindly accepting the word of any idiot pollster with a pen and telephone. Hm? (You may have noticed some of the many "recast" stories in the news: the wave of church burnings in the south was not racist after all but targeted whites and blacks equally; our educational system does not actually discriminate against women--a questionable report was misinterpreted, etc.)Wednesday, November 17, 1999Monday, November 15, 1999Well, I saw Dogma, and it's not as controversial as we were led to believe--more shocking than anything else, and not really that, either. Of course, the movie doesn't take itself seriously and that mitigates much of the offense/shock value of the film. For the most part, it's just an average movie with some funny lines and mushy theology. Wait for the dollar theater. But you don't have to take my word for it: way too positive, way too negative. In the same vein, one's emotional state, and, by extension, general attitude, determines one's natural outward focus. One's focus, in part, determines one's circumstances. Essentially, the internal can create the external. I realize that I have a lot of ideas to expand, but this is the essence of it.
Saturday, November 13, 1999I think that you can't make yourself happy externally. I think you have to be happy internally, and only then can you change your outward circumstances to amplify that happiness.Thursday, November 11, 1999Happy Veterans Day! WWI ended this day in 1919: the 11th hour or the 11th day of the 11th month. Veterans of WWI, who are all dead now, and all other veterans, none of whom visit this site, I salute you.Tuesday, November 9, 1999Yay, I settled a case today! Not a big case or even a challenging case, but I still settled it all by myself, without any assistance from any other lawyers. This is more fun than I thought it would be.Sunday, November 7, 1999I am soooooo tired right now because I pulled an all-nighter last night simply because I wasn't sleepy until around 5:30 this morning. So I stayed up since I had to get up at 7:30 to get ready for church, and right now I'm just fighting to stay awake until around 7 or 8pm so I can get back on a normal sleep schedule.
Friday, November 5, 1999Ok, I'm miffed at all of you who didn't go see Mystery Men, because it was a very good movie, and now they're not going to make any more like it because it tanked.Wednesday, November 3, 1999Ah, the holidays are approaching. I've always liked this time of year--the cool, overcast weather, the colorful, falling leaves, the anticipation of the holidays--and now it's even better without the press of papers and finals! (Gloating? Um, uh, no, I'm not gloating...)
